The importance of handwashing and cleanliness has recently been highlighted more than normal as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic. We are all now more than aware of how important it is to ensure our hands are washed frequently during the day and not just when we are about to eat. We are also very much aware of the route of infection from surfaces into our bodies, mainly through our mouths, nose, and eyes. The phrase “wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds each time is now well known”
The food industry has a long-standing requirement of handwashing, to ensure the process of handling food does not pose a risk for consumers. It is one of the controls in food safety management that is often monitored in food establishments to ensure people are following the handwashing procedure very well. Hand swabs have always been taken routinely and sent to the lab for testing to identify what microbes are still lurking around on people’s hands after washing. This will have to continue religiously and all those involved must be willing to adhere to these long-held practices more than before.
Non-food businesses will now also have to make sure that all staff
maintains a hand hygiene regime that ensures their safety and the safety of
others as per the guidelines outlined by the UK government ( the 5 steps to
working safely ). This is going to take a while to get used to. We are helping a few businesses to get this done easily and at an affordable cost.
If you need help in setting this up, we will be happy to help.
